A calm experience towards the operating room
As a designer, I wanted to design a concept for patients in a hospital. Calm for your moment is an experimental concept that helps the patient to calm down during the exciting journey towards the operating room.
Calm for your moment.
The journey to the OR begins when the patient is lying in front of the bed. As the nurse brings the patient toward the OR, the patient comes into contact with a ceiling that moves, and changes with minimal interaction. This is achieved by using sensors that are integrated into the ceiling. These changes in interactions must be minimal because the design must calm the patient down before the operation.
From observation to prototyping
With an open mind, I went to the hospital to observe where I had the opportunity to design something.
Prototypes
Prototype 1
Using cardboard and wool strings, I wanted to simulate what it would be like to ride your bed under a moving ceiling.
Prototype 2
When you add up these phenomenological observations, you get the concept for 'Calm for your moment'. The video shows the technical operation of the latest prototype.
The movement of the ceiling is done with an Arduino and a distance sensor. The wood can move thanks to cut-outs that are lasered into the wood.
